Mobility Grants
The Australian Academy of Science, through the Theo Murphy Initiative (Australia) and the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF), is offering a number of mobility grants to support a diversity of EMCRs and PhD students in Australia to attend the event.
These grants are designed to offset the expenses associated with attending for those participants who may not be able to attend without support and/or people from traditionally underrepresented demographics.
The mobility grants can cover costs such as caring responsibilities, travel, accommodation, and any other support required to facilitate your attendance.
Note: Applicants who request accommodation support will have accommodations booked near the event location by the organizers.
How to Apply
You can apply for a mobility grant when submitting your application to the conferense chairs
As part of the application, you will need to provide:
- Type of support you require (carer, travel, accommodation, etc.)
- A description of the circumstances that would make your attendance difficult without additional support (max. 150 words)
- An estimate of your expenses
- For further information contact the organizers
Example of a Mobility Grant Application
Type of support you require to attend the event:
'I would like to apply for carer and travel support to attend the symposium.'
Please describe the circumstances that would make your attendance difficult without additional support (max. 150 words):
'I have a 2-month old baby and I need the support from my partner to look after our baby while I join the event. Having access to funds to pay for travel costs for myself and my partner would be helpful for us as I can't access funds through my organisation at the moment. No accommodation is required as we can stay with family. This would be the first opportunity to present my research on advanced manufacturing and build connections with Japan, which would support my opportunities in the field as a woman in STEM.'
Estimated amount you require:
'Return flights for two people from Brisbane to Sydney, estimated $300 per person.'
